Is Article Marketing a Lost Cause?

I received the below email the other day which had a lot of questions that I am sure many people wonder about. While I don't go into any deep detail I do touch on each subject.

Anyways, I though it was interesting enough to post here and encourage you all to post your thoughts.

Here is the email I received and my responses are below:

I am going to put my answers into short point form as there is a lot to cover here.

  • It sounds as if you are a professional article writer but there are two typesof article writing. There are articles written solely for informational purposes
and articles that are written to sell. You may need further studies in regard to the art of selling with articles.
  • Your article submission software is just fine as you should never use a fully automatic submitter or you could be accused of spamming.
  • To be successful with article marketing you need to use the proper keywords in the title and article body. These keywords have to be geared toward your
product and the site you are sending your visitors to. And yes, there are many successful article marketers out there. Either you haven’t given yourself enough
time to see results or you are lacking the sales skills associated with article writing.
  • The whole idea of article marketing is to translate your message into sales and yes,it does work and the best part is you can do this for free.
  • You can also save yourself a lot of time by purchasing quality PLR articles.
  • A literature professor is a great recommendation for your writing abilities but how much does he/she know about writing for sales and search engines? There
is more to the art of selling through article writing than just writing good articles.

Over all, with your abilities to write, all you need to do is learn the sales process involved with article marketing. And if you feel you already have the knowledge then there is a problem
some where else in your marketing attempts.

Having never read one of your articles I hesitate in knowing where the problem lies, if there really are any. I encourage you to continue on and in time you will be rewarded.

Thanks, Christopher, keep us posted. I know my articles are well researched and received, but I am one of many who have not yet seen that break into sales.
Cheers, back to the keyboard. Any ideas, on that magical switch from them reading an interesting article, but then moving on, much appreciated. Thx Derek

Millions of words written and so few significant or potent. Dull titles introduce the reader to humdrum ideas. Authors don't design sentences that shape their thoughts because that takes thinking and editing. The reward comes to those who learn the craft, or at least care about their article content.

This weeks New York Times Book Review has a Bose Radio advertisement. The copy presents a small computer speaker. The reader is invited to visit a Bose store to hear the speaker. "Your eyes will not believe what your ears are hearing." Now that's a way to turn a phrase and entice the reader to want what you offer. Those are words that sell!

Hi Derek,

If I could give you the answer to your question about that magic moment, I would also be able to pick the winning lottery tickets every time too. :)

As your expertise gets better, which only experience can provide, your earnings will start to roll in. Never give up just because you haven't "made it big" yet. Persist and it will happen.

To Ray:

Great words of wisdom there, Ray. If you can't get their attention, don't expect them to listen. You need to pull them in before you even attempt to close the sale. Many folks seem to forget that an article is not a sales letter, but a pre sales letter.
